My career is as a teacher for the past 20+ years. I am teaching in a university basic statistics for business analytics to MBA students. I hold a PhD in statistics. Though I haven’t been doing anything break through there of late – perhaps never, though I am proud of some of my work and publications regardless. So at the moment feeling somewhat like a has been.
I’ve always loved comics and presently getting serious on learning how to draw. About 6 years ago during covid and the lockdowns I started to draw a bit. I didn’t improve much until I took a course online live learning to draw faces, it was incredible, life changing. I drew live online in the course like 6 hours a day for 2 days in a row for like 4-5 weeks. I think I got into flow state a lot during that time. Slept better felt great. Then I took the course again. I got better. Now about 5 years later I may have even gotten worse, without the live lessons I found myself just messing around and inconsistent. Today, mid April 2026, I’ve been studying under a mentor for almost 6 months now and starting to see real progress. It feels awesome. Really, thinking about getting into the art space and creating comics or an on going comic strip. Long way to go and getting there. Thus feelings of a wanna be right now.
Why this site? Well, while studying there were things I wanted, like more references. I found myself buying lots of references on gumroad and other sites. I wanted more variety lots of references to keep me interested. AI is not great for accuracy if trying to learn human anatomy, at least not yet, in my opinion. For a hobbyist wannabe pro it is good enough, at least I feel it is good enough for me. I was thinking it is probably good enough for many hobbyists looking for more fun while drawing. For learning anatomy you can checkout our shop with references of real people to use, but I digress. I truly hope you find the tools and references here helpful.
So high level, on the one hand feeling like a has been to an extent and on the other hand feeling like a wannabe. Regardless, enjoying the journey and focusing on moving forward.
